Cincinnati Deaf Health Fair 2015

On Saturday September 12th, Affordable Language Services hosted a booth at the BoothComposite_FlatCincinnati Deaf Health Fair at Cincinnati State College. Our staff included Diane Dunne, Bobbi Krimmer, Alexis Rhodenbaugh, Joey Phalen, and Sarah Phalen, all trained in American Sign Language.

The many booths and organizations included different agencies for interpreting around the Tri-state area. Some of the booths offered:  free flu shots, “Circle Tail” which is an organization that offers service dogs for adoption for the Deaf and non-deaf alike, and VRS companies that help explain how VRS works how to get the systems installed in deaf homes. Participants included UC Health, Walgreens, The Social Security Administration, Warsaw Federal, and many others.

Workshops at this Deaf Health Fair included financial management and budgeting, sexual health, ADSA rights, budgeting for a healthy lifestyle, diabetes prevention, self-defense and even yoga.

Hundreds of people attended the event from the deaf community.  We had a non-stop line of people waiting to see our booth. They were very interested in our services and were excited about the TV giveaway that we offered. Congratulations to our winner Dekisha Britton!  We enjoyed letting them know about our involvement and services for the Deaf community. Overall, it was great day to meet and greet with members of Deaf community and health care providers.
