Steve started his career with General Motors where during a span of 20 years worked for three different divisions in areas as diverse as engineering, manufacturing, marketing, purchasing and strategic planning. It was during this time with GM that he first embraced and saw the potential of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) concepts (at that time called Just in Time (JIT))
When Steve left GM, over the span of the next ten years he co-founded and led several businesses where he continued to apply LSS as well as mentor small businesses in Strategic Planning through a program with the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce.
After selling the businesses, he tried retirement but was soon active again as a LSS consultant for the next ten years before joining Goodwill Easter Seals at the end of 2012 with the mission to bring continuous improvement education and implementation to that organization.
Steve enjoys family, golf, March Madness, mentoring business owners and assisting in nurturing their businesses.
Alex graduated from St. Charles Preparatory School in Columbus, Ohio, in 1994 and from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio, with a BA in French. In 1998, he worked at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C., in the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America. (He is fluent in French and speaks conversational Spanish.) From 1998 to 2002, he worked for Rittal Corporation of Springfield, Ohio, as an International Sales and Management Trainee, as assistant to the Vice President for Sales and Market Development, and as manager of Rittal Corporation’s Key Accounts Customer Service Group.
From 2002 to 2004, he served as Public Relations Director for Concordia Language Villages, a world language education program for young people. Alex joined Hafenbrack Marketing as an Account Executive in October of 2004. The Ohio-based agency provides comprehensive, integrated marketing services to regional, national and international clientele from offices in Dayton, Springfield and Columbus. In 2006, he became a partner in the agency, serving as Vice President of Client Strategy and Business Development, and overseeing expansion into the Columbus marketplace as well as the creation of a healthcare-focused sister agency, Genessa Health Marketing. Genessa counts among its clients health systems, hospitals, physician groups, senior care organizations and healthcare-focused business-to-business enterprises.
In 2013, Alex joined Mercy Health, a Catholic healthcare ministry serving Ohio and Kentucky, and Ohio’s largest healthcare system. As System Director for Marketing and Communications, he ensures that marketing and communications initiatives adhere to strategic objectives for the growth and success of the system, and that the system effectively communicates the quality of health and life its services make possible for all residents of the region.
Alex lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, with his wife and four children.
Denise is a graduate from Northern Kentucky University with a degree in Management and a Doctorate in Law. She founded The Governance Solutions Group (GSG), as a way to share her 25+ years’ experience inside the corporate boardroom. Her unique sense of board dynamics enables collaboration and consensus.
Denise is a former officer and member of the senior management team of a publicly traded media company where her extensive successes were a result of effectively leading and adapting during transformative times.
Through GSG’s board advisory practice, Denise shares a practical understanding of how boards work and offers tips on how to adapt good governance process to a client’s unique company. She has been in public, private and nonprofit boardrooms and offers an independent perspective that helps directors address the evolving list of board governance concerns. She helps re-energize boards through a participatory board review process.
Mr. Whitt joined Hilliard Lyons in 2012 and opened the Cincinnati Investment Banking office in January 2013. Prior to joining the firm, Leo has served in senior management positions for a number of private equity backed portfolio companies both in the healthcare and technology industries. He served as Chief Development Officer and Chief Accounting Officer for Trilogy Health Services, a Lydian Capital Partners portfolio company, Chief Financial Officer for WestCom Corporation, a One-Equity Partners portfolio company, Chief Financial Officer for Managed Comp and CompDent, both Greylock portfolio companies and Chief Financial Officer for Darwin Networks, a Vulcan Ventures portfolio company.
Additionally, Leo also was a principal for Alix Partners, a leading restructuring firm where he served in significant restructuring and turnaround roles for WorldCom, DVI, ANC Rental, Chi-Chi’s Mexican Restaurants and Fleming Companies. Leo’s Healthcare experience also includes serving as Director of Financial Operations for Vencor for its various business units.
Leo is a Certified Public Accountant, holds the Series 79 & 63 designations, has a BS in Economics from the University of Louisville and an MBA from the Owen School at Vanderbilt University. Leo serves on the boards of Cincinnati Association for Corporate Growth and West Capital Partners and is a Trustee for Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. Leo is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Cincinnati Lindner College of Business and teaches a course on Mergers and Acquisitions.
