Affordable Languages Services, one of the nation’s leading translation and interpreting service providers, is hosting a “Bridging the Gap” event over two weekends in March (2nd-4th and 9th-11th) in Cincinnati, OH! Bridging the Gap is widely recognized as an approved training program for medical interpreters in the US. The fundamental goal of this event is to provide medical interpreter training for bilingual people so that they are prepared to work as interpreters in clinics and hospitals. This 40 hour course is a stepping stone to being able to test for medical interpreter certification.
How does one get trained to become a medical interpreter?
- Being fluent in at least one other language aside from English,
- Having an understanding of the US health care system, and
- Embodying a sense of awareness for other cultures is a great start!
Bridging the Gap’s program includes fantastic segments that cover the essentials of medical interpreting, such as basic interpreting skills, an intro to the US health care system, the importance of cultural awareness, communication skills, and professional development.
